The advent of Web3 and Smart Contracts has ushered in a new era of rights distribution in the creative industry. However, to realize the full potential of this transformative technology, the challenges of standardization, privacy and sustainability need to be addressed.

Since February 2023 (only three months ago! ) LayerZero announced the availability of its testnet Bridge, which would allow exchanging ETH between Goerli (testnet) and ETH (mainnet) (i.e. the possibility to convert testnet token -free of charge- into real money), the possibility to obtain GoerliETH became more and more complicated (yes, as usual all the “whatever-hunters” saturated and collapsed the few faucets still available leaving legitimate developers on a waiting list unable to get enough even to deploy a contract).

It was time to move on to something new and leave behind the "monetized" testnets.
The Sepolia option began to resound loudly.

Sepolia has some interesting advantages over Goerli, but the most relevant is that it was much easier to get and the gas price is absurdly lower, giving developers air again to be able to test their dApps without having to wait/beg for days to get the required testnetETH.

But, can I mint NFTs in Sepolia?

Of course! But there is a "twist"...

In spite of many interesting advantages, Sepolia has (for the moment) one major drawback: the usual NFT Markets/Browsers (OpenSea, Rarible, etc.) do not yet support its NFTs.

It does not seem to be a blocking factor, except for those developers who need to mint and display their NFTs on the testnet...

So, while we wait, it has a solution. Or are we not builders? 😎

Create an NFT Browser that supports Sepolia

Well (you may say), but won't this take longer than waiting for OpenSea to homologate Sepolia and be able to display the NFTs there?

No. It's fast. Very fast. We'll use a few "shortcuts" and minimal tweaks to get our dApp up and running.

We will use a new tool recently developed by @VittoStack and @0xElan from Alchemy, which allows, in a few minutes and following a wizard, to create simple dApps that can then be extended and improved according to each need.

The create-web3-dapp package creates a NextJs-based web3-enabled application under the hood that is compatible with the most used blockchains.

Unfortunately Sepolia is not yet included in the options, but we will fix it very easily…

Let’s start coding!

Some pre-requisites:

• Node.js

• code editor (I will use VSCode for this tutorial)

• an Alchemy free account and with a Sepolia API KEY

1. Install the CW3D NPX package
   In your terminal, navigate to the folder you want to create your project in and run:
   npx create-web3-dapp@latest

2. Enter your Project Name

3. Choose “Create pre-built template”

4. Choose “NFT Explorer”

   

5. Choose “Ethereum” network

   

6. Choose “yes” if you already have an Alchemy account and a Sepolia API Key

   

7. Copy your Sepolia API Key

   

8. Wait for the wizard to finish creating the necessary files and dependencies…

   

9. Change to your new project folder (cd name_of_your_project)

You have already created -in a couple of minutes- a simple but fully functional NFT browser, but it doesn't yet support Sepolia. Let's make some adjustments!
We are going to edit only two lines of nftGallery.jsx file

10. Open/Edit ./components/nftGallery.jsx

11. in line 11, let’s change spamFilter useState() to “false” (we need to do this since used methods do not support “filter” feature for Sepolia)

    

12. in line 116, let’s add a new line with Sepolia to the Chain options:
    <option value={"ETH_SEPOLIA"}>Sepolia</option>

    

    Save the file and that’s it! 🚀

Let’s run our new Project!

• Use npm run dev from your project root folder to start your project

• By default your project will run on your localhost → http://localhost:3000 (the port could be different in your case)

• Open that link in your browser and… Hooray!!

• Select Sepolia from the chains combo
